A dead whale has washed up in the Tamar River at Rosevears, north of Launceston.
The minke whale is described as bloated and starting to decay, with the noticeable smell described as being significantly foul.
A spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment told Pulse the Marine Conservation Program is aware of the whale.
They said Parks and Wildlife staff are assessing the carcass.

Authorities are reminding the public to keep their distance, as interfering with a whale is an offence under the Whale Protection Act.
Minke whales are small baleen whales commonly found in Australian waters, including the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea.
They are known for their sleek bodies and distinctive white markings.
Marine and Safety Tasmania say the whale “will be towed out to sea” at 10am on Saturday.
