Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, but the house sustained significant damage.
A fire investigator determined the blaze was deliberately lit and the case was handed over to Launceston CIB.
The 68-year-old woman has since been charged with arson.
She has been bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
