Tasmanians can explore detailed plans for the Macquarie Point stadium from today, with developers inviting public feedback on key design features ahead of parliament’s debate on the project next week.

The free design showcase at The Goods Shed in Hobart runs until November 5, featuring 3D models, architectural plans and material samples for the proposed multi-purpose venue.

“This showcase demonstrates the extensive design work and planning that has been undertaken to advance the delivery of our state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium here at Macquarie Point,” Abetz said.

“The stadium is more than just sketches on a page, it is a carefully designed venue that offers function spaces, restaurants and bars.”

Visitors can have their say on elements such as seat colours and ways Tasmanian stories could be woven throughout the design.

The venue will combine hospitality areas with top-tier sporting facilities, aiming to attract major events and tournaments to the state.

Macquarie Point Development Corporation CEO Anne Beach said designers had worked through more than 1,500 pages of plans alongside Stadiums Tasmania and sporting codes.

“Designing complex infrastructure is an iterative process,” she said.

“We have worked closely with Stadiums Tasmania as the future operator, users and a range of specialist technicians to deliver a stadium that not only meets the detailed technical requirements of a range of sporting codes, but has also been stress-tested to consider how the spaces can be best used and activated.”

The showcase comes as parliament prepares to debate final approval for the development from next week.

Ministers Felix Ellis and Eric Abetz will also host an online forum on Monday night from 7pm to 8pm to discuss the project.

“Tasmania stands at a turning point,” Ellis said. “This development is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Tasmania.”

The forum will include a live Q&A session focused on jobs, tourism and Tasmania’s bid for AFL and AFLW teams.

The design showcase is open from 10am to 4pm daily at 41 Evans Street, with plans to tour regional Tasmania in the new year.
