Devils VFL squad kicks off pre-season training across Tasmania

Tasmania Football Club’s VFL men’s squad has officially commenced pre-season training, marking a major milestone for the introduction of the Devils.

The training began on Monday evening across three locations in Tasmania, with sessions running from 6pm to 8pm at Brighton Oval in the south, West Ulverstone Football Club in the north west and Scotch Oakburn College in the north.

Up to 70 male athletes took part in the inaugural training session, marking the beginning of preparations for the club’s eventual VFL competition participation.

The final playing squad is expected to be announced in early 2026.

Tasmania Football Club Head of VFL and VFLW Aaron Pidgeon described the commencement as a pivotal moment for the organisation.

“Over recent weeks, the team have worked hard to get to this point [and this] is the culmination of that work and the start of the next phase of the build of the program,” Pidgeon said.

“We expect up to 80 athletes to be simultaneously training across Tasmania’s three regions, all on-field and off-field staff are excited to get going and to see what training will bring,” he added.

While the men’s program is now underway, the women’s squad will begin their training slightly later, with sessions set to commence on 1 December to align with their later season start time.

“Our VFLW squad continues to build and we are excited about their training commencement in the coming weeks,” Pidgeon said.
