A truck has been caught on camera coming into contact with an outdoor dining section on Criterion Street in Hobart’s CBD, pushing fences into diners at a popular café.
CCTV footage from the Pulse Tasmania newsroom captured the collision, which occurred at Criterion Street Cafe in the heart of the city.
Acting Hobart Lord Mayor Zelinda Sherlock said the city was relieved no one was hurt.
“First and foremost, we are thankful that no one was injured in the incident,” she said.

The incident has prompted a Tasmania Police investigation, with authorities conducting inquiries into what caused the truck to impact the dining area.
Sherlock confirmed the café has operated under proper permits for outdoor dining for more than a decade.

“Criterion St Café has had a permit for outdoor dining at this location in place for at least 15 years,” she said.
“We thank the café for their responsible action.”
Tasmania Police said road safety remained a priority and urged the public to report dangerous driving incidents.
“Tasmania Police is committed to ensuring the safety of our community members and road safety is a key part of this,” police said.

“Public reports of dangerous driving are an important part of our enforcement strategy and we encourage all road users to report unsafe behaviour.”
A spokesperson for the trucking company involved did not offer comment when contacted by Pulse.
Police confirmed they would continue making inquiries into the incident.
