Two dolphins have given the seal of approval for the world’s largest battery-electric vessel, after they were filmed riding the bow off the coast of Tasmania.

The footage, captured during testing of Hull 096, shows the mammals gliding alongside the ship’s wavepiercers as it moves through open water.

Hull 096 is currently undergoing trials in Tasmanian waters ahead of its delivery to South America.

The vessel represents a major advancement in low-emission ferry technology.

The vessel is powered by 250 tonnes of batteries delivering over 40 megawatts

The 130-metre ship called Hull 096, powered by 250 tonnes of batteries delivering more than 40 megawatts of electricity, will carry 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles in near-silent operation.

The footage was described as a “special and unexpected moment” by those involved in the trials.
