Plans for a new hotel on Hobart’s Macquarie Street have undergone a last-minute change as the project nears completion.
The 9-storey, 206-room development by Singaporean company Fragrance Group will now operate under the DoubleTree by Hilton brand, rather than the previously announced Novotel.
The $65 million hotel will feature a function centre, restaurant, pool and basement parking.
Fragrance confirmed the switch this week in plans to update signage, saying the “previously confirmed operator” had changed.
“As the hotel operator has now changed, the previously approved signs have been re-designed and, in some cases, the dimensions and locations have changed,” documents read.
“All signs directly relate to the hotel and restaurant, reflecting the name of the operator and associated branding.”
Despite the brand switch, construction remains on track for completion later this year.
Updated signage will go before the City of Hobart for approval at an upcoming council meeting.
