A man who allegedly drove through a busy shopping precinct while more than six times over the legal alcohol limit has been charged by police.
Police say it is “incredibly fortunate” no one was injured.
The 35-year-old from Rokeby was intercepted on Hance Road in Glebe Hill shortly before 4pm on Thursday.
He returned a breath analysis reading of 0.306 – more than six times Tasmania’s legal limit of 0.05.
Acting Inspector Daniel Moore said the man was seen driving erratically through the shopping district.

“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and puts everyone at risk,” he said.
He said the timing made the incident particularly dangerous.
“This incident occurred in the late afternoon, during one of the busiest times on our roads and it’s incredibly fortunate no one was injured,” Moore said.
The man was charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and driving under the influence.
He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
