Four drink-drivers were caught during a targeted police blitz in the north-west following Melbourne Cup celebrations yesterday.
Police set up operations at Spreyton, Latrobe and Quoiba on Tuesday afternoon, timing the three-hour blitz to catch motorists heading home after the annual racing carnival.
Over the course of the operation, officers carried out 362 random breath tests.
Acting Inspector Martin Parker said police were disappointed with the number of drink-drivers detected, despite most motorists doing the right thing.
The post-cup blitz also nabbed one speeding driver and another who was suspended and driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle.

Three defect notices were issued, along with an infringement for failing to display P2 plates.
Parker said the message to cup revellers and others was simple.
“If you are going to celebrate an event or plan to drink, organise a designated driver,” he said.
“Don’t bet on your own life or the life of others by driving while under the influence of alcohol. Please make good choices.”
