Police are searching for a driver who ran from the scene after crashing a car into a power pole in Mowbray on Wednesday night.
The black Mitsubishi Lancer ploughed through a residential fence on George Town Road in the Launceston suburb about 9pm.
Witnesses saw a person “running from the scene of the crash”, police said.
It was allegedly the third time that night the driver had given police the slip.
The evening began about 7:50pm when police tried to pull over the Lancer on Lilydale Road.
Instead of stopping, the driver sped off towards Rocherlea.
About an hour later, at 8:50pm, police spotted the same car at Waratah Court in Rocherlea.
The driver again refused to stop and sped away.
Soon after, police found the wrecked Lancer near the corner of George Town Road and Notley Street. No one was reported injured in the crash.
Police are now asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“Anyone who witnessed these incidents or who has dashcam or CCTV footage of the erratic driving or the crash is asked to contact police on 131 444,” police said.
“You can also report to Crime Stoppers Tasmania.”
