Two pedestrians have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after they were struck by a car that veered off a Launceston road overnight.
Emergency services were called to Hobart Road in Kings Meadows around 11pm on Tuesday after reports a car had lost control.
Police said the driver, a 23-year-old woman, “was not at the scene” when officers arrived.
Her car was found crashed into the fence of a home police say the 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman had been walking past at the time.
The pedestrians, who are understood to have been trapped under the vehicle, were both taken to Launceston General Hospital for treatment.
Police say the driver involved was later located at an address in South Launceston.
She was taken into police custody for mandatory blood testing and later released without charge.
Her gold Holden Captiva remains impounded.
Acting Inspector Martin Parker said the investigation is ongoing and the cause of the crash remains unknown.
“We’d like everyone to drive with caution, we’d like people to be mindful of their speed, pay attention to the road and people moving around the road,” he said.
“Anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV footage, or [who] observed a gold Holden Captiva in the Kings Meadows area at around 11pm … we’d encourage to come forward.”
