A Scottsdale man has learned an expensive lesson after pulling a burnout right in front of a marked police car, leaving his vehicle clamped for nearly a month.
The 23-year-old was behind the wheel of a blue Mazda BT-50 utility when police spotted him lighting up the tyres at the intersection of Victoria and King streets about 6pm on Sunday.
Officers were directly behind the ute when the driver entered the intersection and carried out the illegal manoeuvre in full view of police.
The man’s vehicle has been clamped for 28 days and he will face court at a later date over hooning offences.
Police clamped 60 vehicles for hooning across Tasmania in the past financial year, including 11 in the northern district.

In total, 175 vehicles were clamped statewide between July 2024 and June 2025 for a range of road offences.
They included dangerous driving, disqualified driving, evading police and excessive speed.
“Police will continue to remove unsafe drivers from our roads and target reckless and dangerous driving behaviour,” a spokesperson said.
