Driver narrowly avoids serious injury from flying firewood on Tasman Highway

A driver on the Tasman Highway has escaped serious injury after a piece of firewood fell from a ute and smashed through their windscreen.

The incident occurred on Thursday at St Helens when the unsecured load dislodged from a vehicle travelling ahead of the victim.

Tasmania Police confirmed the driver was transported to hospital with only minor injuries.

“The situation could have easily ended in tragedy,” Tasmania Police said.

“In Tasmania, driving with an unsecured load can result in a fine, or worse, serious injuries or death.”

Police issued an infringement notice to the ute driver for failing to properly secure their load.
