A Victorian man has been charged with drink driving after he was spotted stumbling and urinating in a Devonport McDonald’s drive-through.

The 49-year-old from Point Cook was reported by an off-duty police officer who saw him get out of his car in the drive-through.

Constable Taylah Orders said McDonald’s staff also raised the alarm.

“McDonald’s staff also contacted police due to the man’s slurred speech and behaviour,” she said.

“The man was intercepted by police a short time later on Steele Street in Devonport, after reportedly committing multiple traffic offences within 500-metres.”

“Police will allege he failed to provide a roadside breath test before later returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.207 at the police station.”

That reading is more than four times the legal limit.

The man has been charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and driving under the influence.

He’s been hit with an immediate 12-month licence suspension.

“Driving at that level of intoxication is extremely dangerous and could have had devastating consequences,” Constable Orders said.

The incident was one of several drink driving cases across the north-west coast yesterday.

A 37-year-old Somerset woman was pulled over on the Bass Highway at Park Grove after police saw her vehicle swerving and mounting the kerb.

She got out of her car and walked into the path of oncoming traffic before police helped her to safety.

She returned a reading of 0.183 and has been charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and driving under the influence.

As it was her second offence, she has been given an immediate 24-month licence suspension.

A 26-year-old Penguin man was also charged after returning a reading of 0.128 on Main Street in Ulverstone.

During a targeted operation on Forth Road at Don, a 22-year-old man from Whale Beach, New South Wales, returned a reading of 0.066 and received a three-month driving ban.

Constable Orders said drink driving remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes.

“Alcohol significantly impairs judgement, reaction time and coordination,” she said.

“There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel after drinking. If you are planning to consume alcohol, plan another way home.”
