Drunk man drives through boundary fence to leave Party In The Paddock festival

Police have charged a drunk man after he allegedly “drove through the boundary fence” to exit Party In The Paddock at Quercus Park in Carrick over the weekend.

The 24-year-old from South Launceston will face court at a later date for the incident on Saturday night.

Police also arrested a 25-year-old man from New Norfolk at the festival for “serious drug matters”, including possessing and selling a controlled drug and obstructing police.

Inspector Grant Twining said another five people will be proceeded against for minor drug matters.

“Over the weekend, we saw thousands of people descend on Carrick for the annual Party in the Paddock festival,” he said.

“Police, including drone operators and members from Launceston and Central North Uniform and Taskforces Raven and Scelus, were on-site for the duration of the festival conducting proactive patrols throughout the site to ensure public safety.”

“Pleasingly, police would like to thank the large majority of attendees who were well-behaved and safe during the event.”

A road safety operation was conducted as thousands of campers left the festival site this morning, looking for drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

3,087 motorists were subject to random breath tests at multiple locations over eight hours.

4 drink drivers detected ranging from 0.06 to 0.08, including a P-plater who is required to have a blood alcohol content level of zero.

19 random drug tests were conducted, finding 15 positive results.

3 passengers were caught not wearing seat belts, while 5 vehicle defect notices were issued.
