Drunk man with suspended licence caught at 136km/h on Arthur Highway

A man caught driving at almost four times the legal alcohol limit at almost 40km/h over the speed limit has had his licence suspension extended.

The 53-year-old was stopped by police on the Arthur Highway in Dunalley at 2pm today, travelling at 136km/h in a 100km/h zone.

He initially blew 0.204 and was found to have a suspended licence.

A subsequent breath test at the station confirmed his alcohol reading at 0.180.

Constable James Blay said the incident was a stark reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving.

“Drink driving and speeding are both fatal five contributions to serious and fatal crashes on our roads and with the wet weather and reduced visibility, there is an even greater risk posed to road users,” he said.

The man has been charged with several traffic related offences and bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

His licence was suspended for a further 12 months.
