Firefighters are battling multiple blazes across Tasmania’s West Coast after a thunderstorm swept through the region this afternoon.
Crews from Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service are responding to a bushfire outside of Zeehan, which was reported just after 3pm when dry lighting strikes occurred.
The fire is currently at an ‘Advice’ level, with the Zeehan community advised to monitor conditions.
A second fire on Mount Donaldson was reported at 5:40pm and has also been given an ‘Advice’ rating.
Parks and Wildlife have closed all tracks on Mount Donaldson due to fire activity in the area.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted further thunderstorms across the East Coast into the evening.
“If you are aware of lightning strikes in the local area and you see smoke or fire, please report to TFS immediately on Triple Zero,” a spokesperson said.
