Police are investigating after two people fled the scene of a car crash in Carlton last night, taking the vehicle’s registration plates with them.
Emergency services were called to Carlton River Road near the intersection of Moomere Street shortly before 7:30pm following reports of a white Ford Falcon utility rollover.
When police arrived at the scene, the vehicle’s occupants had already fled.
Witnesses reported seeing two people removing property from the crashed utility, including its registration plates, and transferring items to a burgundy Ford Falcon sedan parked nearby.
The pair then left in the sedan before authorities arrived.

Investigators believe the incident may be connected to reports of hooning and burnouts in the Carlton and Lewisham areas immediately before the crash occurred.
A Tasmania Police spokesperson confirmed officers are “following a particular line of enquiry” into the circumstances surrounding the rollover.
They are now calling for public assistance to identify the individuals involved.
“Anyone with information about the crash, or dashcam or CCTV footage of either vehicle in the area at the time, is urged to contact police on 131 444 and quote ESCAD 347-10042025,” the spokesperson said.
