A 79-year-old man has died following a drowning incident near a beach in Kettering, south of Hobart, this evening.
Emergency services responded to calls just after 6:20pm on Monday reporting a man had fallen into the water from a vessel.
Despite immediate rescue efforts from bystanders and subsequent medical intervention, the elderly man could not be revived.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tasmania Police confirmed the man was from the Tasman Peninsula.

The circumstances surrounding how the man came to fall from the vessel have not been released, with authorities now preparing a report for the coroner.
Police expressed their condolences following the incident.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.
