Elise Archer will no longer run as an independent for Clark in the next state election, her husband Dale Archer confirmed.

Less than 24-hours after publicly announcing her intention to run in the March 23 election, Mr Archer issued a statement saying his wife will “not be proceeding” with her nomination.

“Unfortunately, a health circumstance has arisen which will prevent Elise from being able to continue with her campaign,” he said.

“She would like to express her sincere thanks to all her supporters who have encouraged her to re entre public life.”

“Elise’s health and well being must take absolute priority at this time. Due to the circumstances I must request the public and media respect our privacy.”

He said they would not be making any further comment at this time.

Ex-Liberal Elise Archer to run as independent in upcoming state election

4:45pm Wednesday, February 14: After being booted out of the Liberal Party last year, Elise Archer is plotting her return to Tasmanian politics.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, the former Liberal MP for Clark announced her intention to contest the upcoming election next month.

“After much thought and consideration, I have decided to run as an Independent in Clark at the next State election,” Archer said.

“The overwhelming heartfelt support from my constituents every day has reminded me just how much I love being a local Member, and I look forward to the opportunity of getting straight back into it!”

“I will have more to say in coming days.”

Archer resigned in October following an investigation into allegations of bullying and inappropriate behaviour.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said at the time he had requested her resignation after he was made aware of remarks that were “unacceptable by any standard, and unequivocally fall short of the standards I expect of my Ministers”.

The leaked remarks, in the form of WhatsApp messages, saw Archer tell colleagues she was “sick of victim survivors”, words she later clarified were ‘taken out of context’.
