Emergency response underway as downed wires on Channel Highway cause power outage

Almost 1,000 households have been left without power in Hobart’s south this evening following a power outage.

TasNetworks say the issue is currently affecting some customers in the Sandy Bay and Taroona areas.

“Crews are responding to reports of wires down on the Channel Highway, and will restore power as soon as possible,” a spokesperson says.

Impacted residents are advised to monitor the TasNetworks website for further updates while the issue is repaired.

The Tasmania Fire Service are responding to reports of a bushfire on the Channel Highway at Taroona, which is believed to be linked to the power outage.

The outage follows an earlier disruption that affected approximately 1,400 customers in the Old Beach and Gagebrook areas.
