Emergency services are investigating reports of a strange gas smell detected in two north-east Tasmanian towns this morning.
Residents in both Scottsdale and Bridport said the odour was noticeable across different parts of the towns.
Tasmania Fire Service crews have been deployed to investigate the source of the odour, but have so far been unable to identify its cause.
Authorities say they are continuing to look into it and have reassured locals that there is no immediate danger.
“At this stage we have been unable to find any cause of the smell and are making further inquiries,” a spokesperson said.
“Tasmania Fire Service advise residents not to be alarmed and if you can identify the source of the smell please contact Tasmania Fire Service via Triple Zero (000).”
