More shops, extra car parking and a fast-food restaurant have been given the green light for construction in Cambridge.
The expansion of the Homemaker Centre complex near Hobart Airport was unanimously approved by Clarence City Councillors at a meeting on Tuesday night.
The application was granted with conditions, including a requirement for a minimum of 28 bicycle parking spaces, 255 car parking spaces and a ban on external lighting operating between 11pm to 6am, excluding any security lighting.
The council also imposed a condition that means signs can only be illuminated between the hours of 10am to 10pm and a detailed landscaping plan must also be provided.
While the tenants for the stores are yet to be made public, the developer has hinted that a ‘KFC-type’ restaurant will be included in the development.
In their application to the council in December, the developer said similar expansion plans were submitted for the 63 Cambridge Park Drive site in 2015, which received council approval at the time, but were never executed.
“Together the existing and proposed homemaker centres will function as an integrated centre, allowing service and customer vehicles to pass between the two centres,” the application read.
Current tenants at the centre include Anaconda, BCF, Harvey Norman and Harris Scarfe.
