A woman has been charged with causing death by negligent driving following a fatal crash in Ravenswood last year.

36-year-old father-of-three Phillip James Standage was ejected from the vehicle when it collided with a power pole at around 3:30am on August 28, 2023.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene on Faraday Street.

The 37-year-old woman reportedly driving the car was mostly uninjured.

Police said shortly after the crash that they suspected excessive speed and the lack of a seatbelt were contributing factors to the man’s death.

Inspector Craig Fox said at the time that the woman could be looking at “some serious charges” if alcohol or drugs were involved.

One year on, police have confirmed she has been charged via summons with several road safety offences.

The woman will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court later this month.
