Fern Tree tap water named best in Australia

Tasmanian tap water has officially been declared as the best in Australia, with the top drop also winning the local title for the second year running.

The winning water from TasWater’s Fern Tree treatment plant in the foothills of Hobart’s kunanyi/Mount Wellington marks the third time in eight years that the state has claimed the title of the best-tasting tap water in the country.

“Fern Tree has incredibly pure and good quality water and has been named Tasmania’s top drop for two years in a row,” TasWater’s Craig Roberts said.

“This weekend in Victoria it went up against the nation’s best at a blind taste-testing contest with a panel of industry experts.”

He put the great taste down to the journey the ‘pure and high-quality’ rainfall and snowmelt water makes down the mountain.

“The local community has always known how good the water tastes and how clear it is, and it was great to have that recognised on the national stage.”

The winning water from Fern Tree will now compete against international offerings at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition in the United States next year.

Tasmanian water last won in the global competition in 2020 with Rossarden water from the state’s north-east.
