Homes Tasmania has unveiled a revised plan for a proposed housing development on Penguin’s old football oval following community pushback.
The initial proposal faced strong opposition from residents who felt it was too dense and out of character with the town’s existing landscape.
After months of consultation, the project has undergone a significant redesign.
The number of housing lots has been reduced from 55 to 45, with increased lot sizes and building heights capped at two storeys to better blend with surrounding homes.

Homes Tasmania said the revised plan aims to strike a balance between increased housing supply and community preferences.
Other improvements include expanded public green spaces and connectivity throughout the development, along with wider footpaths along existing roads.

The development will feature a diverse mix of housing tenures, with approximately 85% of lots to be sold privately.
Eligible buyers will have access to the MyHome shared equity scheme, while Homes Tasmania will retain the remaining land for social housing.
A new public consultation period is now underway and will continue until March 31.
