Detectives are investigating a suspected arson attack on a public housing unit in northern Tasmania.
Emergency services were called to a property on New Street in Invermay, a northern suburb of Launceston, at about 8:15 pm on Wednesday.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire deliberately lit on the exterior of the unit, which had spread inside.
The blaze was quickly brought under control, which authorities said limited damage to the property.
Police said no one was inside the unit at the time of the incident.
Fire investigators later determined the blaze was deliberately lit and referred the matter to Tasmania Police.
Homes Tasmania, the state government agency responsible for public housing, has been notified.
Detectives have since taken over the investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
Police are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area before the fire broke out.
They are also urging anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage that may assist with the investigation to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Launceston CIB on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
