A house on Springfield Avenue in Moonah went up in flames on Friday night, with Tasmania Fire Service crews called to contain the blaze and nearby residents told to stay indoors.
“Tasmania Fire Service crews from Glenorchy and Hobart arrived to find the rear of the property burning well,” the TFS said at 10:25pm.
“Crews worked to quickly contain and control the fire.”
A smoke alert was issued for Springfield Avenue, Coleman Street and surrounding areas.

“There is no threat to the general public. People who don’t need to be in the immediate area should stay away,” the alert said.
Next door, The Loud Lounge Hair Salon took to Facebook to reassure worried clients.

“The salon is all intact, although unfortunately the house beside Hazel Breeze shop is engulfed in flames,” the salon said in a post.
“Occupants got out safely, fire brigade are on the scene to contain it.”
The fire service said a fire investigation would be carried out today.
