Two roads closed by this week’s east coast bushfires have reopened, but authorities are urging caution ahead of dangerous conditions forecast for Sunday.
Dolphin Sands Road reopened to all traffic at 4pm on Friday, while St Helens Point Road is now accessible to Stieglitz, Parkside, Parnella and Akoroa.
Reduced speed limits remain in place on both roads as emergency crews continue work in the area.
Tasmania Police Commander Jason Elmer said crews had worked tirelessly to make the Dolphin Sands area safe.
“While the road will reopen, reduced speed limits remain in place and we urge all motorists to drive with caution as hazards may still be present in the area,” he said.

“We also encourage those who do not need to be in the area to continue to stay away.”
“Tasmania Police will maintain a presence in the area over the coming days to support community safety.”
The reopening comes as the Tasmania Fire Service warns of high fire danger ratings across most of the state on Sunday, with extreme conditions expected for the Furneaux Islands.
Strong winds, isolated storms and dry lightning are adding to the risk, particularly in eastern areas.
Commissioner Jeremy Smith said the conditions were unsafe for any burning.

“A high fire danger rating means there’s a heightened risk of fires, which can become dangerous and spread quickly, requiring you to be ready to act,” he said.
Strike teams have been pre-positioned and aerial resources are on standby.
The Stieglitz fire is now contained but people are warned to stay out of the fireground.
A bushfire advice remains in place for Peron Dunes, Dianas Basin and O’Connors Farm.

Residents returning to fire-affected properties at Dolphin Sands can collect protective equipment and information packs from the recovery centre at the old courthouse in Swansea, open through the weekend.
The centre has details on financial assistance and the government’s clean-up program.
Tasmanians are urged to review their bushfire plans, stay informed via TasALERT and report any fires to Triple Zero (000).
