The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) has suspended all fire permits in the state’s south as temperatures are forecast to reach nearly 30 degrees.
The suspension will be in effect from 2am Thursday until 2am Friday.
Authorities say high fire danger is expected due to the combination of rising temperatures, below average soil moisture levels and already dry conditions.
Southern Regional Chief Simon Pilkington said the decision was made as a preventative measure.
“These decisions are made in the best interest of our community members,” he said.

“We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation.”
During the suspension period, no new fire permits will be issued and any existing permits for burns scheduled have been cancelled.
Residents who have conducted burns within the past week are being urged to check that their fires are fully extinguished.
