Fire service issues watch and act warning as bushfire burns in Levendale

Earlier: Residents on Cutting Grass Road in Levendale have been urged to be ready to evacuate as a bushfire approaches their homes.

The Tasmania Fire Service has issued a ‘Watch and Act’ alert, warning just before 4:30pm that the fire is expected to impact the area “now”.

“The fire is travelling towards properties at the end of Cutting Grass Road near Levendale Back Road,” the alert reads.

“The fire is expected to be difficult to control.”

Emergency services are advising residents to implement their bushfire plans immediately or prepare to relocate to safer areas.

Firefighters and aircraft have been deployed to contain the bushfire

Firefighters and several aircraft have been deployed to the scene and are working to contain the fire.

“Take action now to protect yourself, your family and your home,” the alert continued.

“If you are not prepared for a bushfire, be ready to leave for a safer place.”
