Firefighters extinguish blaze at Launceston Kmart that caused $50,000 in damages

Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that caused around $50,000 in damages at a Launceston shopping centre overnight.

Crews from the Launceston and Rocherlea fire stations responded to the Coles Kmart Complex on Racecourse Road just after 1am on Thursday.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the building’s alarms and sprinklers activated and a small fire burning in some electrical equipment.

The blaze was quickly brought under control and deemed accidental.

A Tasmania Fire Service spokesperson said the fire caused around $50,000 in damages.
