A suspected battery fire at a phone and technology repair shop has brought central Hobart to a standstill this morning.
Firefighters cleared out part of the busy Centrepoint shopping complex around 10:20am following reports of a fire inside the MyTouch store.
Police cordoned off the area and prevented shoppers from entering while firefighters responded to the small blaze.
Witnesses reported seeing Tasmania Fire Service crews enter the store and said shoppers and staff were asked to leave the vicinity as a precaution.
“There has been a small fire in the Centrepoint shopping centre,” a TFS spokesperson told Pulse.

“The fire has been extinguished and checked by crews who are still working to ventilate the building.”
The incident caused significant traffic delays across the Hobart CBD, with the shopping centre’s central Murray Street location creating bottlenecks through the city centre.
The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.
