Five teenage girls have been arrested after an afternoon of alleged assaults and thefts targeting retail workers in Launceston’s city centre.
The five youths were picked up on Main Street around 3pm on Friday after police received reports of anti-social behaviour, stealing and assaults on staff at several shops along Charles Street.

Inspector Aleena Crack said the girls would be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
“Regardless of your age, there is no excuse for engaging in anti-social behaviour and assaults in our public places,” she said.
“If you do, then you can expect to be dealt with by police.”
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incidents on Charles Street or has CCTV footage to contact them on 131 444.
