A former employee of Tasmania’s Ashley Youth Detention Centre has appeared in court on historic child sexual abuse charges spanning nearly five decades.
Dale Creely, 64, faced Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday on multiple charges, including seven counts of rape.
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 1974 and 1982 and again during a 30-year period from 1990 to 2021 when Creely was employed at the facility.
The charges relate to multiple victim survivors and stem directly from investigations following the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.
Creely showed little emotion during the brief court appearance and made no comment to media as he left court.

His lawyer requested an adjournment, which was granted.
Creely will return to court on August 27, when he is expected to enter a plea.
