Glenorchy City Council has appointed former Huon Valley Council boss Emilio Reale as its new chief executive officer.
Reale, currently the council’s Director of Infrastructure and Development, will take over the top job from July 1.
He will replace outgoing CEO Tony McMullen, who is stepping down after eight years in the role.
He previously served as general manager of Huon Valley Council, where he helped rebuild organisational culture following a board of inquiry process.

Mayor Sue Hickey said Reale will help drive the growing city forward.
“Mr Reale has more than 25 years’ experience in local government and the selection panel recognised his depth of experience as well as strong knowledge of local issues,” Hickey said.

Hickey said the appointment was made after an extensive recruitment process, with council members unanimously backing Reale for the position.
“The appointment recognises his passion for the Glenorchy community and outstanding commitment to service delivery,” she said.
“This includes the delivery of community infrastructure to help continue building our city, as well as developing a dynamic community-focused workforce to serve ratepayers and residents as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
“This appointment not only allows for the continuation of work to reinforce the organisation’s culture, but also provides for a seamless transition in policy and program implementation,” she said.

She said he has a vision for Glenorchy to be a city “that is not only open for business, but a city that is welcoming and determined to grow as an economic hub,”.
