A Tasmanian family has tragically “lost everything” after a devastating blaze destroyed their Penguin home.

Just one week after completing four years of renovations, Peter Fielding’s Ironcliffe Road house was reduced to ashes in a matter of minutes on Wednesday night.

Fire crews from across the north-west coast were called to the scene, where they found the house fully engulfed in flames on arrival.

Speaking to The Advocate, Fielding said he was devastated to lose the home, having “worked every weekend over the last four years to get it where we wanted it”.

“We weren’t here when the fire started, so we’ve got the clothes we’ve got on, and that’s it,” he told the paper.

The house was not insured for the value of the extensive renovations, with estimated damage caused by the fire around $800,000, deeming the house a total loss.

Fielding also lost an uninsured vintage Commodore car that he was fixing up and was “pretty much ready to go” in the blaze.

Despite the loss, Fielding is grateful for the support of family and friends and has a place to stay while he figures out the next steps.

The Tasmania Fire Service has deemed the fire as accidental and says it started in the garage of the property.
