Those on Hobart’s eastern shore have the chance to hop on a free ferry across the River Derwent to the Australian Wooden Boat Festival today.
The special ferry service, chartered just for the event, will run between Bellerive and Brooke Street Pier.
Festival Director Paul Stephanus said the ferry will make the event “even more accessible” without the hassle of traffic or parking.
“While the Derwent River Ferry may not be a wooden boat, we welcome McConnell Dowell’s support to ensure festival attendees from the Eastern Shore can travel with ease,” he said.
The ferry will depart from Brooke Street at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm, with return trips from Bellerive scheduled 30 minutes later.

Labor has previously argued ferries should be a regular fixture for major events like the Wooden Boat Festival and the Taste of Summer, rather than a one-off or day-time service.
Labor’s Shadow Events Minister Luke Edmunds has called the current ferry arrangements inconsistent and confusing.
“What we’re seeing at the moment is there’s some events that don’t have the ferries running and there’s some that do,” he said.
“When people know they can rely on a ferry service, they can plan their day, they know their transport’s sorted out, they know they can let their hair down if they want to or that they can rely on getting home safely.”
