A state-of-the-art disability support facility for Northern Tasmania will receive crucial funding, with both major parties pledging $3.74 million for the St Giles Good House project in Newstead.
Labor have announced they will match the Liberals’ earlier pledge, securing the final piece of an $11.22 million funding package.
St Giles CEO Honni Pitt described the funding as transformative for the project.
“This funding commitment brings us closer than ever to turning our vision into action,” Pitt said.
“The Good House will be a life-changing hub for so many in our community, and with planning now able to start, we’re on the cusp of delivering something truly special for Northern Tasmania.”

The development will transform the former Newstead Heights School site into a comprehensive disability support centre featuring a disability-accessible hydrotherapy pool, commercial kitchen, and specialised allied health services.
St Giles repurchased the site for just $1 in mid-2023, reconnecting with a property that has decades of history with the organisation.
The location is strategically positioned near existing St Giles facilities on Amy Road, creating an integrated service hub for children and adults with disabilities or developmental needs.
The Tasmanian Government are set to match the federal funds with $3.74 million of state funds.
