“Pat Smear has apparently rung in the new year by smashing the s–t out of his left foot,” the post said.

“This means he’ll unfortunately be missing a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal.”

Guitarist Jason Falkner, who has worked with Beck and St. Vincent, will step in for Smear at the affected shows.

“We’ll miss our beloved Pat as much as you will, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible,” the band said.

The 15-time Grammy winners are set to perform at UTAS Stadium in on January 24.

The sold-out show will be the band’s first performance in Tasmania since 2015 and their first ever in Launceston.

It is the only Australian date on the current tour, with the state government contributing $500,000 and Launceston Council $150,000 to secure the exclusive concert.

Smear, 66, is a founding member of seminal punk band The Germs and joined Foo Fighters in 1994.

He briefly left the group in 1997 before returning as a touring member in 2006, and later rejoining as a full-time member in 2010.

Brisbane rockers Full Flower Moon Band and Launceston psych-rock trio Spooky Eyes will support the Foo Fighters at the January 24 show.
