A giant gorilla statue stolen from the roof of a Tasmanian house has been found dumped on the side of a road.
The three-metre-tall fibreglass figure was pinched from the roof of a Margaret Street property in Beaconsfield on Sunday night.
Tasmania Police described the theft as “a little bananas”, given the statue’s hefty size.
It is believed the thieves likely used a trailer to haul it away.
“Standing at three metres tall, it’s not an easy thing to move and police are seeking any information from the community about who may be responsible for taking it,” police said.

After a tip-off from the community, the statue was found on Rifle Range Road and collected by its relieved owner.
A local community group confirmed the recovery on Monday.
“The gorilla has been located and arrangements are being made to go pick him up as he has been dumped on the side of a road,” the post said.
Police had urged anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
