Police have named the person who died in a Glenorchy house fire last Friday as 39-year-old Alison Robinson.
Detective Acting Inspector Nick Bowden said Robinson’s identity was formally confirmed on Monday morning as the person who was located deceased inside the house.
“Our thoughts remain with Ms Robinson’s loved ones and they have requested privacy at this time,” he said.
The 40-year-old New Town man charged with her alleged murder, David George Evans, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
Evans is facing charges of murder, arson, motor vehicle stealing and unlawfully setting fire to property.
He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody until his next appearance in February.
Acting Inspector Bowden said detectives are continuing to appeal for further information from members of the public as part of the ongoing investigation into Robinson’s death.
“We’re particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw a person in dark clothing, carrying a dark backpack and travelling on or with a light-coloured mountain bike in the area between Park Street, North Hobart and Pirie Street, New Town between 7am and 7:30am on Friday, 5 January,” he said.
“Anyone who saw this person, or who has relevant CCTV or dash cam footage, is urged to contact Glenorchy CIB on 131 444.”
