A high-visibility police operation targeting crime in Glenorchy has led to 20 arrests and more than 55 charges in one month.
Taskforce Respect, launched in May, has continued enforcement across the Glenorchy CBD and retail areas, with officers carrying out more than 20 searches in August.
Tasmania Police Inspector Jason Klug said the taskforce was cracking down on anti-social behaviour and retail crime through foot patrols and community engagement.
“11 men and 17 women, including youths and adults, have been charged with a range of offences including stealing, unlawful possession of property, breaches of bail and outstanding warrants,” he said.

“Additionally, multiple formal directions have been provided to individuals conducting themselves in a disorderly manner.”
The taskforce was set up after growing community concerns about youth crime and anti-social behaviour.

Police data previously revealed that just 57 repeat offenders were behind more than half of all youth crime in Tasmania last year.
The latest results come as local politicians prepare to push for tougher action on the issue when parliament resumes.
Elwick MLC Bec Thomas has long voiced frustration over youth crime in the area and plans to call for stronger measures, including harsher penalties for young offenders.
She previously said it is time for a full review of youth justice sentencing and diversion programs in Tasmania.

Inspector Klug said police would keep working with the community and local retailers to tackle crime.
“Everyone has the right to be safe in our community and people can help police by reporting any illegal or anti-social behaviours witnessed,” he said.
“If you have information on a crime, please report to police on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.”
