Foundation works are finished at the Glenorchy Sports Centre, hitting a key milestone in the project to bring new community sports courts to Hobart’s northern suburbs.
Work on the main structure is set to kick off next week.
Sport Minister Nick Duigan said 530 cubic metres of concrete had been poured and 44 tonnes of steel was on site, forming the backbone of the emerging facility.
“This is a significant step forward in delivering more community sports courts for the northern suburbs,” Duigan said.

“The next phase of construction will see the building’s frame begin to rise, creating a visible sign of momentum as the new multisport facility takes shape.”
The centre will feature four indoor multisport courts, a dedicated show court, modern amenities, accessible design features and flexible community spaces.

Tasmanian construction company Fairbrother is delivering the project with a workforce of around 100 people.
Duigan said the build was already providing real training opportunities, with apprentices contributing 680 hours of hands-on development so far.
“The facility is also giving back well beyond community sport,” he said.
“This project forms part of our government’s broader investment in community sporting infrastructure, ensuring Tasmanians have access to high‑quality facilities close to home.”

The Glenorchy Sports Centre is on track for completion in mid-2027.
