Police are investigating a violent altercation in Hobart’s Elizabeth Street Mall where a man was knocked to the ground during an evening incident.
The alleged assault occurred around 9pm on Tuesday night, with several bystanders including an unidentified good samaritan coming to the victim’s aid.
Tasmania Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators from the South East Criminal Investigation Branch are particularly interested in speaking with the good samaritan captured in CCTV footage helping the injured man.

“We’re grateful to those who stopped to assist the victim and would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the altercation or can identify the person who helped,” a police spokesperson said.
