The Huon Valley Council will soon have a new face around the table, with Lukas Mrosek elected after a recount.

Mrosek, a Greens candidate from Cygnet, was chosen after the resignation of Councillor Jenny Cambers-Smith earlier this month.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission conducted the recount from the six candidates who put their names forward. Mrosek will serve until the next ordinary election in 2026.

Mayor Sally Doyle welcomed Mrosek to the council on Monday, congratulating him on his election.

Mrosek, who was born in Poland, lives in the Huon Valley with his wife and two sons.

During the 2022 Local Government elections, Mrosek had highlighted housing insecurity and council planning processes as key concerns.

The new councillor will be officially sworn in later this week and will attend his first council meeting on Wednesday, August 28.
