The cyber attack was carried out by a Russian-linked ransomware group, who gained unauthorized access to the sensitive information through the GoAnywhere file transfer system.
The leaked data, which was made available on the dark web on Friday morning, includes Student Assistant Scheme approval letters that were sent to parents, revealing the full names and dates of birth of their children.
EARLIER 10:30 AM: The Tasmanian Government data breach has taken a dark turn for the worst, with the hackers this morning releasing some compromised documents on the internet.
The personal data of Tasmanian parents and students from the department of education system is thought to have been compromised by cyber criminals from a Russian-linked ransomware group.
The Government is scheduled to hold a press conference on the breach, which includes leaked student levies, names, addresses and school account numbers of parents, this afternoon.
