Tasmanian construction giant Hazell Bros has signed on as the new gold sponsor for The Mind Games, a team-building competition that raises funds for workplace mental health initiatives.

The event, launched five years ago by Sherri Ring, has evolved from a single-day challenge into a broader movement promoting preventative mental health strategies across the state’s workplaces.

Hazell Bros Managing Director Geoffrey Hazell said the company has been involved with The Mind Games since it began in 2019.

“Hazell Bros was established over 80 years ago and we’ve grown exponentially in that time,” he told Pulse.

“But at our heart we are still very much a family business, and our people are our priority.”

“When you employ 800 odd people, everybody has got different circumstances in their life. And we see that across our business.”

Hazell cited the event’s focus on fundraising and awareness for workplace mental health as something they “truly believe in”.

Ring said she is thrilled with the partnership.

“They’ve brought seriously fun and innovative challenges to game day while reinforcing the importance of positive workplace mental health and the power of preventive action,” she said.

“This is a company that really walk the talk. We could not ask for a better gold sponsor.”

Hazell Bros will launch its fundraising with its second annual Corporate Golf Day, which generated nearly $25,000 last year.

This year’s Mind Games will be held on November 6 at Princes Wharf No 1.

Ring says now is the “ideal time” for Tasmanian organisations to get involved to promote positive workplace mental health.

All funds raised will support workplace mental health research through the University of Tasmania’s Menzies Institute for Medical Research.
