Helicopter, police boat search called off for paddleboarder feared in trouble

Updated 8:30pm, Tuesday February 4: Police have called off the search for a paddleboarder feared in trouble in waters near Hobart Airport tonight.

They say the person had “made it home safely”.

Earlier: A search is underway for a paddleboarder believed to be in trouble tonight.

Police say the person was spotted in the water at Frederick Henry Bay, between Lauderdale and Cremorne, around 5:30pm.

They were reportedly on a white board and wearing a black wetsuit.

A helicopter and police boat are working to locate the individual

The rescue helicopter and a police boat have been deployed to help with the search.

Tasmania Police are asking anyone who was paddleboarding in the area and has since returned home to contact them on 131 444.
