A man in his 60s has been rescued a short time ago after spending the night lost in Tasmania’s Central Highlands.
The walker failed to return home yesterday evening after setting out on a day hike. He was reported missing at 10:30pm.
Authorities said search efforts were initially hampered by uncertainty over his planned route through the area near Poatina.
After checking several “likely locations”, police found his car in the Bradys Lookout trail car park overnight.
He was contacted this morning and ground search crews working with the rescue helicopter reached him shortly before 9:30am.

Police said he was found “safe and well”.
The incident has again highlighted the need for bushwalking safety, with authorities frustrated by hikers heading into remote areas without adequate preparation.
Police are urging people to think twice about going solo and to carry proper emergency gear.
Even day walkers should carry waterproof clothing, sufficient food and water, first-aid supplies, maps and torches, police said.
“Ensure the trip is within your abilities and fitness level and you have a route plan,” police warned.
They also advised hikers to check weather forecasts and let someone know their itinerary and expected return time.
